VisAd: find and share- relevant commercials

I got a quote from a woman at the Rosedale farming meeting the other night about kids only seeing advertisements for big macs and chicken nuggets when they watch tv. These commercials are definitely in the minority.

MMEXP: Possible "DIVE DEFINITIONS"

Dives are typically quirky bars or restaurants with a distinctive smell and a regular crowd. The physical building is generally worn/aged, but the service is almost always friendly and inviting. Prices are usually cheaper and you walk away with stranger stories. Most offer live shows or an array of music from a jukebox in the corner.

Dives are bars or restaurants that generally have a worn facade, cheap prices, friendly service, quirky nicknacks (like a fish mounted to the wall or a table made out of a stagecoach wheel), a distinctive smell, a regular crowd and a sense of comfort and reliability.

Dives are bars or restaurants that typically consist of quirky nicknacks, cheap prices, distinctive smells, friendly service and a regular crowd. Places often boast either live shows or an eclectic jukebox in a corner. One way or another you'll walk away with a story to share.

1 DEFINING "DIVE"
1a-How would you define Dive? A cheap hole-in-the wall bar with regulars and homey but friendly people
1b-how would you describe a stereotypical dive? wooden, in a strip center, cheap drinks, regulars, you can wear jeans and a tshirt and fit in
1c-what makes it different from restaurants/bars? the casual nature and cheapness
1d-what makes you chose one over the other (dive vs restaurant)? I don't always want to get super dressed up to go out but I still want to drink and have a good time with friends, also if I don't want to spend a lot of money on martinis- I'd rather have cheap wells and beer = perfect for a dive

2 NEW DIVES
2a- How do you hear about new dives? friends or family
2b- What would you need to hear/know about to get interested enough to visit? friends and drink specials, emphasis on drink specials.OH and not too many creepy old men
(personal motivation for going to dives)
2c- What do you look for in new dives? and dives in general? CHEAP DRINKS
2d- What would make you go back? CHEAP DRINKS and a friendly bartender thats also a bit efficient
2e- How far would you go to try out a new dive? if I had a sober driver- 20 minutes, without a driver- 8 minutes

3 PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH DIVES
3a- How often do you go out to dives? couple times a month
3b- Are you a regular anywhere? Kind of
3c- Why do you go to dives? Music/food/drink/social - music and cheap things... like drinks
3d- Do you go alone or with friends? always with friends- I'm a girl, lets not be dangerous

5 NET SHARING
5a- What would you hope to get from a website created to facilitate dive finding/visiting? .....drink specials, friendliness rating and a locator (like closest to me), maybe even a creepy old man rating (dives to avoid), user comments
5b- Would you participate in rating dive you have visited? if I could from my phone- if it was easy to do
5c- Would you upload photos/video of your visits? maybe
5d- Do you currently blog/participate in web sharing? To what extent? no blogging but extensive facebooking, duh
5e- Would our site get you more interested in web sharing? maybe, it would convince me to try new bars

6 OTHER NOTES/THOUGHTS? ....cheap drinks!

MMEXP: poster inspiration

I know we need to be past the "ideas" and "visual inspiration" phase (if not now than SUPER FRICKING SOON), but I just ffffound these and I really, really enjoy them. To the point of being super inspired. It's 1am. My brain won't shut off. And this is the kind of stuff I'm thinking about.

INDIVIDUAL
In General...
Individuals in our community will interact with our hub as a means of posting ratings/reviews, photos/videos of personal experiences, first impressions of the locations, etc. Away from the hub (on an iPhone/iPad) users will be able to get real-time night-by-night updates on events (such as local shows), get maps to locations, and create/access a planner of events for the near future. Individuals will also be able to rate the trust-ability of other users in order to filter out serious users from users of a sillier persuasion.

COMMUNITY:
IN GENERAL
Finding local dives is an activity/hobby that many enjoy participating in. Our demographic is fairly open. It will generally consist of young adults, aged 18-30 (possible college students), of any race or ethnic background, male or female. Since currently there lacks a unified group of individuals that participate in the exploration of local dives, we hope to help bring people together in a shared venture. We hope to help our community by creating a list of local dives with pertinent information relating to each location (address, phone number, quality of service, hours, nightly specials, calendar of events, reviews, etc.) as well as implementing a rating system that is individual driven.
